As mentioned before, both leaders and followers are welcome to attend this focused workshop event.
One of the many goals of this event is to foster enpowerment, confidence, spirit, and energy in the individual.
If you are a leader and wish to take the classes, you must still register just like the followers.
We will give instructions as to how the leaders can incorporate these techniques into their own dancing.
Of course, some of it will be obvious to understand and incoporate, like the Jazz Movements, Isolations, etc.
We are designing the classes to be independent of partners for the majority of exercises; if partners are needed, it will be
on a limited basis and followers can partner with each other. For example, say you are working on a "swivel" variation
in one of the classes, all you would need would be for another person to hold out his or her arm to help out with the move.
We don't want people to have to worry about getting leaders to sign up with them for the classes.
We don't want people to have to worry whether or not their partner is getting the move or doing it correctly in order to practice.
This workshop is about taking control of your own dancing and being a little selfish by only having to worry about your movement!
Get Ready to Learn a lot and have a blast. We are really looking forward to this whole day of
"Le Hot Sauce!"

** I would like to thank Rye Crowen for his design concepts: Pinar Eriyas for her outreach program & myspace help:
Eddie Gutman for his MySpace design: Ron Thompson, Shane Meyers, Jeanne Guzzetta &, Laurie Zagmester for their constant support!

Class Descriptions:

  • Beginner Jazz Elements - Learn how to incorporate fun, Stylish Vernacular Jazz Elements into your body & your dancing.
Learn movements such as "fall off the log," "suze-q," "jump charleston," & more. A class where you will learn style, rhythm, & balance.

  • Le Hot Jazz Routine - Learn a FUN, Challenging routine choreographed by Carla & Ria. You must already know certain basic jazz
elements such as "fall off the log" etc. because this class is going to go, go, go and be HOT HOT HOT spilling over with SAUCE. Don't be afraid
to work hard and dance fast. A great class to inspire new movements into your dancing and inspire your body to move in new, innovative ways.

  • African Movement - Congolese - Congolese dance comes from the Congo in Central Africa. It is known for it's smoothness, groundedness, soufulness, and depicted by it's pelvic rotation, shoulder and torso rotation. The Congolese are known for their music and dance. There is always a call and response involved in African dance in a variety of forms such as between lead musician and accompanying musicians, lead drum and the dancer(s), musicians and dancers, etc. the music is played typically on the Ngoma, the name for some of the Congolese drums, which are cylindrical and elongated in height. Therefore, the musicians stand to play these instruments. Saturday's class will be composed of two or three different rhythms so that the students get somewhat of a sample of Congolese dance while learning.

  • Tap & Rhythm - This class will cover the basic steps in tap. Many of our steps will be based on the legendary "Mr. Bojangles" Bill Robinson
who was famous for his clear sounds & remarkable sence of rhythm. We will keep it simple &delightful with a taste of the 30's.

  • Styling & Improv I - Concepts ~ How to keep flow in the dance while still adding your own personal style and flare.
Styling within the flow of the lead. Learn some interesting footwork variations and rhythms to add into your dancing at appropriate times and places.
Learn some cool footwork variations for your Lindy figures.

  • Solo Blues Routine - Get ready to drag your feet and smack your ass! A 1920s era solo blues routine to help you incorporate some sexy stylin' into your vernacular jazz and blues.

  • How to Dance Your Footwork with your whole body - Does this need a description? The title is self-evident. Getting your body
more involved in your dancing. Put more power behind your Swingouts, swivels, & other lindy figures as well.
How to look more like a dancer! Add balance, grace, beauty, and SASS into your footwork.

  • Improve your Improv - The Power of Suggestion, Improv Part II - How to affect changes in direction & motion
without taking over the lead. Utiliziing what the lead gives you and adding to it.
We will start off the class with a bunch of drills for finding better connection,
centering, balancing, and enhancing quality of movement. Then we will proceed to use concrete examples on how to positively "affect"
your leaders while still following! How to increase the communication skills within your own body but still keep control and feel great for your leader!
Are you a follower who feels stuck in a rut and wants to be able to contribute more to the dance and still be a great "follow?"
We hope this class will inspire you to think outside of the box by providing useful tools on how to move your body with more precision and purpose!

    One Night Stand Online Registration

Todd & Naomi are two of the most recognizable names in the lindy hop circuit today. They are both champion level dancers who have taught workshops around the world, as well as performed for dance and music legends alike. They hold a wide array of championship titles under their belts, from such prestigious events as ALHC, the US Open, Rhythmic Arts Festival, NADC, ULHS, and others. Todd and Naomi specialize in connection and musicality, which is apparent every time they stop on a dance floor. Their love of lindy hop is infectious, and sharing this passion is what they enjoy most about teaching. Most recently, Todd and Naomi became the 2005 American Lindy Hop Champions, as well as the 2005 US Open Strictly Champions, and they collectively won the fast division, mid-tempo division, and team division (with their team, the Silver Shadows) at the 2005 Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown.

David Rehm is an internationally recognized instructor sought after by the most prestigious dance camps around the world.
He recently took first place in the American Classic Balboa Championships at the infamous All Balboa weekend. David currently resides in Maryland, dancing and teaching full-time in Maryland, Virginia, and the Washington, DC metro area. He has competed and placed at the National Jitterbug Championships, the American Lindy Hop Championships, and the North Atlantic Dance Championships, to name a few. He is also an avid collector of vintage Lindy Hop and Balboa footage on film. David learned to dance and continues to develop his understanding of dance through extensive research, collaboration, and social dancing around the country.
